Hand Baggage AllowanceBritish Airways Bag Size
British Airways changed their hand baggage rules back in 17th October 2015. Basic fares passengers can bring on one piece of hand luggage (overhead cabin bag), weighing upto 23kg and one small bag like a handbag, laptop or rucksack - free of charge. Basic fare passengers maybe asked to check on their bags at no extra cost if the flight is too busy.
The maximum dimensions of a piece of cabin/trolley luggage is – 56x45x25cm
The maximum dimensions for a small bag is – 45x30x15cm
If you exceed this limit it will be checked in as hold luggage which will be added on as your checked bag allowance. Otherwise, if you exceed this, you’ll be charged hefty excessive baggage fees.
Duty free bags count as hand baggage so if you have more than one you will have to check it into the hold for an additional fee.
This policy goes to show airlines no longer want luggage on any of their flights now with Norwegian Air now charging travellers for hand luggage as of January 2020.
|Baggage Type||Size Restrictions||Weight Allowance|
|Small Baggage (laptop, rucksack handbag)||40 x 30 x15cm||23kg|
|Cabin Baggage (Hand luggage)||56cm x 45cm x 25cm||23kg|
|Checked Baggage||Max (90 x 75 x 43 cm cm)||10kg to 23kg|

For basic fare holders who need to purchase checked baggage the price online for one piece of hold luggage, upto 23kg, is £60 and at the check in desk is £75. Makesure you book online to avoid punitive fees.

As with all airlines companies British Airways has a strict policy on items you can’t put in your luggage. If these items are found, they could confiscate your luggage or prevent it from travelling.
There can be no more than 100ml of liquids in your cabin bag, that is each item with liquid i.e. gels, toothpaste, mouthwash cannot exceed 100ml. If it does it will be confiscated and destroyed.
All dangerous objects such as sharp items like scissors, knives or razors are strictly prohibited. Explosives or flammable substances are forbidden inside the aircraft, for example, lighters, fireworks and guns. Lithium batteries which are loose are strictly prohibited.
If any of the above are found in your bags they will be confiscated and could potentially result in prosecution if drugs or guns are found.
If you plan to take a golf club or other blunt object such as a baseball bat, then this is also prohibited in your cabin baggage.
Also, in regard to food, in general most countries are ok, however some countries such as Australia and some E.U countries can be very strict. On the whole non-perishable foods are ok, but some perishable items are unacceptable. Please check with the destination country which foods you can and cannot bring. Please refer to British Airway’s cabin baggage policy.

- Check-in queues that last forever
- Luggage carousels that are never ending
- Tedious unpacking policies at security
