Hand Baggage AllowanceRyanair bag size
While passengers used to be able to bring two bags onto a Ryanair flight, now you can only bring one small bag (rucksack, hand bag or laptop bag) on board, which must fit under the seat in front of you. The bag, such as a rucksack, duffle bag, handbag or laptop bag must not exceed dimensions of 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.
Ryanair’s cabin baggage policy on all Ryanair flights changed in 1st November 2018. This means standard fare passengers will be charged for their cabin bag. Fees range from £6-£17.50. Only priority boarding passengers will be allowed one small cabin bag (40x20x25cm) – handbag or laptop bag equivalent, plus a larger cabin bag (55x40x20cm) with a maximum weight allowance of 10kg. Passengers who do not have priority boarding will only be able to bring one small cabin bag on board free of charge, the other hand luggage or cabin bag will cost the passenger to take on the flight. This new policy goes to show airlines no longer want luggage on any of their flights now with Norwegian Air also following suit in January 2020.
|Baggage Type||Size Restrictions||Weight Allowance|
|Cabin Baggage (laptop, rucksack handbag)||40cm x 25cm x 20cm|
|Cabin Baggage (Hand luggage) (If paid for priority)||55cm x 40cm x 20cm||10kg|
|Checked Baggage||81cm x 119cm x 119cm||10kg to 20kg|
|Excess Baggage (£11 per kg over 20kg)||81cm x 119cm x 119cm||Max 32kg|

Only plus ticket holders are entitled to have 1 piece of checked luggage for free, but any passenger can purchase upto 3 additional units of baggage, with a weight restriction of 20 kg per item.
The price of each unit of additional baggage goes from £25-£45 per journey if booked online or to £45 plus if booked at the airport or check in gate.
The maximum weight per bag is 10kg and you must be able to lift the bags into the overhead lockers. Bags over 32kg will not be checked in and need to be shipped separately which is were you can use AiroLuggage’s door to door baggage delivery service.
Babies aged 8 days – 23 months have no baggage allowance if they are travelling with an adult. A baby bag weighing up to 5kg may be carried by an adult in addition to his or her own baggage allowance.
The maximum dimensions of your first cabin bag must be 35 x 20 x 20cm and the second 55 x 40 x 20cm.
Standard fare and flexi fare holders – can only take 1 small bag, 35 x 20 x 20 cm, on a Ryanair flight for free. Cabin luggage can be taken on for an additional fee between £6 – £17.50. Only 1 bag cabin bag is permitted per customer.
Checking in excess hand baggage
If the bag doesn’t fit into the baggage gauge, then a fee of £25 will apply at the gate for non-priority customers.
Please check your bags so they are not oversized or overweight as you could be charged additional excessive fees.
Instead of all this hassle, why not use AiroLuggage to ship your luggage door to door?
Checked Baggage Allowance
Number of bags permitted
Passengers can take upto 3 x 20kg bags into he hold. Ensure this is purchased online otherwise you will pay almost double at the check in desk or gate. This means you can check in 3 x 20kg bags giving a total weight of 60kg, any single item cannot weigh more than 32kg, as previously mentioned. Hold baggage charges vary from upto £45 when purchased online and upto £55 at the airport, depending on the route, and journey type. Be advised not to leave it less than 2 hours before booking your luggage online. If you leave it less than 2 hours, then you WILL NOT be able to book your hold luggage online, thus you will need to pay at the airport which is nearly double the price.
If travelling with your family, as a couple or with a group, then you can pool your luggage together so that the weight is combined. For example, if two passengers have each paid the charge for a 15kg allowance they can individually carry up to the permitted weight or they can combine the weight and divide that in any combination that they wish so one could take a bag weighing 17kg and the other 13kg. This means you only pay for that piece of baggage.

Ryanair Cabin Baggage prohibited items
As with all airlines companies Ryanair has a strict policy on items you can’t put in your luggage. If these items are found they could confiscate your luggage or prevent it from travelling. There can be no more than 100ml of liquids in your cabin bag, that is each item with liquid ie gels, toothpaste, mouthwash cannot exceed 100ml. If it does it will be confiscated and destroyed.
All dangerous objects such as sharp items like scissors, knives or razors are strictly prohibited. Explosives or flammable substances are forbidden inside the aircraft, for example, lighters, fireworks and guns. Lithium batteries which are loose are strictly prohibited.
If any of the above are found in your bags they will be confiscated and could potentially result in prosecution if drugs or guns are found.
If you plan to take a golf club or other blunt object such as a baseball bat then this is also prohibited in your cabin baggage.
Also, in regards to food, in general most countries are ok, however some countries such as Australia and some E.U countries can be very strict. On the whole non-perishable foods are ok, but some perishable items are unacceptable. Please check with the destination country which foods you can and cannot bring. Please refer to Ryanair’s cabin baggage policy.
Ryanair Checked Baggage prohibited itemsThe list of forbidden items inside your checked luggage is less restrictive than inside your hand luggage with Ryanair. However, razors, and sharp object are restricted. Also, ammunition and guns are also restricted.

Why AiroLuggage offers a superior door to door service?
Checking-in luggage online or at the airport is the most common method for transferring luggage amongst holiday makers, expats and students. However, it’s hard to find a comparable situation were a service is so widely used but which is simultaneously comprehensively disliked. Checking in luggage at the airport has been primarily used as the only option to send your luggage abroad, as historically there has been no suitable alternative.
The inherent issues travellers have with checking in luggage
- Hassle with carrying multiple pieces of luggage across the airport
- Check-in queues that last forever
- Luggage carousels that are never ending
- Tedious unpacking policies at security
- Punitive charges if you check-in at the airport
- Weight restrictions which if exceeded result in extortionate fees
- And now non-refundable trolley charges are being implemented at airports to punish travellers even more
But, there’s now a cost-effective unique alternative to checking in your luggage at the airport. AiroLuggage has a simple and easy booking interface for transferring your luggage from A to B whether on holiday, moving abroad, studying or sending some bags home.
